HEALTH & WELLBEING MAGAZINE - I ANSWER A READER'S QUESTION ON HOW TO MANAGE THE PLATEAU EFFECT
Updated: Mar 3
Q. I've stopped losing weight, but I haven't met my goal. What can I do now?
Leading outdoor personal trainer, Becks van Someren (née Boston) says:
A. An exercise routine can't thrive on monotony as the can result in diminishing returns, known as the plateau effect. This is when your muscles adapt and strengthen according to the stresses you place on them. I suggest switching up the exercises you currently do and the intensity and time of day. You could alternate your cardio and introduce strength training. Shock your body and challenge your limits with new physical demands.
